# Custom Objects

> Custom Object let you extend Reevo’s CRM beyond standard records like Accounts, Contacts, and Opportunities. Use them to model data and workflows unique to your business without forcing everything into generic fields or external systems.

# Understanding Custom Objects in Reevo

## What Custom Objects Are Used For

Custom Objects help your team:

* Model data that doesn’t fit standard CRM records (e.g., “Partner Programs,” “Service Contracts,” “Projects,” “SKUs”)
* Associate specialized data with Accounts, Contacts, and Opportunities
* Track structured workflows unique to your business
* Create reporting, automation, and visibility across GTM + Ops teams
* Standardize information that would otherwise live in spreadsheets or notes

Custom Objects give you the flexibility of a modern database, inside your CRM, so your system reflects your real-world business model.

# Step-by-Step Guide

### 1. Creating a Custom Object

* Go to **Settings → Custom Objects**
* Click **New Custom Object**
* Enter a **Name** and choose an **Icon**
* Click **Add Field** to define custom attributes
* Choose the appropriate **Field Type** and fill in details
* (Optional) **Pin** important fields for quick visibility
* Click **Save**

Once saved, your new custom object appears in the left-hand navigation alongside standard CRM objects.

### 2. Creating and Managing Records

You can add records manually or import them in bulk via CSV.

To create a record:

* Open your custom object from the main menu
* Click **Create** (or the **+** button)
* Complete the required fields
* Click **Save**

To manage records:

* Use filters and sorting in list view
* Click any record to edit fields or update relationships

### 3. Setting Up Relationships

Relationships define how your custom object connects to other objects in Reevo, such as **Accounts**, **Contacts**, or **Opportunities**.

There are two main types:

| Type         | Description                           |
| :----------- | :------------------------------------ |
| **Outbound** | This object references another object |
| **Inbound**  | Another object references this object |

> Quick mental model:
>
> **Outbound → “this record links to that record”**
>
> **Inbound → “that record links to this record”**

### 4. Example: Inbound (Contact → Pets)

In this example, each **Contact** can have multiple **Pets** — a **one-to-many inbound** relationship because each Pet belongs to a single Contact.

To create this:

* Open the **Contacts** object
* Go to the **Relationships** tab
* Click **+ Add Relationship**
* Select **Pets** as the related object
* Define the relationship as **One-to-Many**
* Under **Forward Name**, enter how the field should appear on the Contact record
* Under **Inverse Name**, enter how the Contact will appear on each Pet record
* Click **Save**

Reevo automatically creates the inverse link (*Pet → Contact*).

### 5. Associating Records (Inbound Example)

After both objects exist:

* Open a **Contact** record
* Click **Custom Associations**
* Use the dropdown to **search for and select** Pet records to associate
* Linked Pets will now appear in the Contact’s associated list

### 6. Example: Outbound (Projects → Accounts)

Now, let’s look at the **outbound** direction — where one **Project** can be associated with multiple **Accounts**.

This is also a **one-to-many** relationship, but it’s created *from the custom object’s side*.

To create this:

* Open the **Projects** object
* Go to the **Relationships** tab
* Click **+ Add Relationship**
* Select **Accounts** as the related object
* Define the relationship as **One-to-Many**
* Name both sides clearly (e.g., *Project → Accounts* and *Account → Projects*)
* Click **Save**

To associate records:

* Open a **Project** record
* Click **Associations**
* Use the dropdown to search for and select the Accounts you want to link

## **Troubleshooting / FAQs**

  <Accordion title="Why can't I ask Ask Reevo questions about my Custom Objects?">
    Custom Objects are not yet integrated with Ask Reevo. You can view and manage Custom Object records directly in the Reevo interface, but the AI assistant cannot query or update them yet. This integration is planned for a future release.

  <Accordion title="Can I delete a Custom Object after creating it?">
    Deleting Custom Objects with existing records and relationships requires careful consideration. Contact your Reevo administrator or support team for guidance on safely removing Custom Objects.

  <Accordion title="How many Custom Objects can I create?">
    There are practical limits on the number of Custom Objects, fields per object, and relationships per object to maintain system performance. Contact Reevo support if you need specific guidance on limits for your organization.

  <Accordion title="Can I change the fields in a Custom Object after creating records?">
    Schema changes to Custom Objects that already contain data require careful handling. Consult with your admin or Reevo support before modifying the structure of Custom Objects with existing records.

  <Accordion title="Why don't I see a Custom Object that was created?">
    Check with your admin to ensure you have the appropriate role-based permissions to view and work with that Custom Object.  Permissions are assigned per object and per role.
